The Westport Museum, formerly named Westport Historical Society, today hosted its 10th annual Lantern Tour at the Willowbrook Cemetery with a walking tour through the storied cemetery where historically prominent Westporters are buried. Pictured: Nick Foster, curator of Wilton Historical Society, portrays Westporter Ambrose Hurlbutt (1825-1913) who is an influencer of the development of Willowbrook Cemetery. According to Foster’s monologue, Hurlbutt, in the 1800s, was impressed with Brooklyn’s Greenwood Cemetery and had the current Willowbrook Cemetery landscape designed similarly. The cemetery landscape was eventually completed in July, 1878 by the famed Frederick Olmstead. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
