Landon Hopes to Make Westport Schools Even Greater

WestportNow.com Image
Westport Superintendent of Schools Elliott Landon told the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club today that he is committed to taking the Westport school system “from good to great and making it even greater.” Noting that this year’s school budget was about $82 million, he added with a smile, “my hope is to be here long enough to get it to $100 million.” Landon at the same time pointed out that this year’s 4.5 percent education budget increase was among the smallest in the state. 1. Be thankful you live in a town whose school system enjoys a stellar reputation and whose lofty property values (aka: your net worth) are, to a great extent, a direct result of the perceived value (and I believe justly warranted) the new families moving into town believe they will derive from putting their kids through our schools (as well as everything else Westport offers).

  2. Dr. Landon should address the fact that in spite of the huge expenditures, Staples rank as one of the top 1200 public high schools in the nature has steadily fallen form number 1 or number 2 in the 1960’s and ‘70’s to 514th as of the May 2006 update of the Newsweek Poll.
