UPDATE The rededication of WPA Artist Robert Lambdin’s mural “Pageant of Juvenile Literature” scheduled today at Staples High School has been postponed due to the early closing of schools because of the weather, organizers announced.
The half-hour ceremony was scheduled to take place at 2:45 p.m. in the lobby outside the school’s auditorium.
The program was to be co-hosted by Staples Principal James D’Amico and Westport Library Executive Director Bill Harmer and feature town officials and students in mural-themed character.
First Selectman Jim Marpe was scheduled to be Abraham Lincoln, Staples Players’ Director David Roth as Long John Silver, and Staples Players Mary Boozin and David Corro as Alice and the Cheshire Cat.
There was also to be a musical selection performed by Coleytown Middle School school student Melody Stanger and her dad Eric, event planners said.
Staples is the third location for the mural commissioned in 1934 for the original Saugatuck Elementary School on Bridge Street. It was moved to the library in 1992.
The event is open to the public.
