Kindergarten Registration Has Begun

The 2014-15 Westport Public School kindergarten registration has begun, the schools office announced today.

An announcement asked families moving to Westport for the new school year and parents of entering kindergartners to register their children now.

“Please don’t wait until the last minute,” said Schools Superintendent Ellliott Landon. ” Let us know now that you are here so we may plan for the optimal education for your youngsters.”

Those who are not sure of their district elementary school can find the information on the school district website, westport.k12.ct.us or they may call the superintendent’s office, (203) 341-1026, an announcement said.

All information on registration is located on the district website under the “Parent” tab, the schools office said.

All families will need to provide a completed registration packet (received from a school) along with a child’s birth certificate or passport and four proofs of residency—lease/deed/mortgage, driver’s license and two current utility bills.

“Preparations for 2014-15 are well under way,” said Landon. “There are many elements that go into the planning process for a new school year, and everything is affected by enrollment.

“The sooner we have a firm count on the number of students in each school and grade, the better we can plan for the number of kindergarten sections at each school.”

Upon registering a child, parents will have the opportunity to sign the child up for a “mini-kindergarten” session at their elementary school.

Students will visit classrooms and participate in a few different centers, where they will have an opportunity to explore kindergarten manipulatives and materials with the school staff, the announcement said.
