“It’s time to retire and spend more time with my grandchildren and do other things like enjoy the summer for the first time in my life without working,” she said.

“And the timing is good. It’s the end of our lease. And I won’t miss rising early for the many 7:30 a.m. deliveries I did for our commercial accounts, delivering work uniforms, for instance.”

Offering a no-frills inventory rarely seen in modern, outdoor chain stores, its stock-in-trade has been the likes of pea coats, field kits, heavy woolen pants, jackets and blankets, camp stoves, knives and assorted military memorabilia.

Reflecting on the many years in Westport, Rothbard, a Trumbull resident, said, “It’s been a good run and I always enjoyed the wonderful relationships we have with so many customers. I’m blessed to have such a strong following.”

Rothbard’s roots go deep with the Army Navy store. She said it started at 855 East Main St., Bridgeport in the 1950s by her late parents Hank and Julie, before relocating to the 5,000-square foot space in Westport.

She stressed that until the store closes May 31, “There are great sales.”
