WestportNow.com Image
The owners of the house at 283 Sturges Highway are the newest recipients of a Westport Historical Society (WHS) historical plaque. Bob Weingarten, WHS plaque historian, presented the plaque to Daphne Lewis (c) and her daughter, Blythe. Lewis co-owns the house with her husband Kemp. According to Weingarten, the house, known as the Purdy-Roy House c. 1907, was “purchased by Mary Roy in 1908 from Mary and Elbrey Purdy with an assessment fo $450 for a dwelling on 52 acres of land. Records confirm the dwelling, although small, appeared to be at the same location as the current house at 283 Sturges Highway. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
