Honoring Our Heritage: 108 Cross Highway

The owners of the house at 108 Cross Highway are the newest recipients of an historical plaque by the Westport Museum for History and Culture, formerly the Westport Historical Society. Bob Weingarten (l), house historian and plaque coordinator, presented the plaque identified as the Henry Munroe House, c.1806, to Rachel Ember and Jeff Porter, owners since January 2014. According to Weingarten, the plaque honors the heritage of the first Westport house to be built and owned by an African American Henry Munroe. Ember and Porter also were recipients of an Historic District Commission Preservation Award in 2015 for rescuing the historic house from an anticipated demolition.
