Honored With Sportsmanship Award

Charlotte Axthelm, 14, was presented with the John Ward Sportsmanship Award today by Bill Meyer of the Westport Junior Softball League Board of Directors as Steve Axthelm, Charlotte’s father, coach and league vice president looks on. The award is presented each year since 1991 in honor of John Ward, popular Little League coach who died in 1990, to a league player who most exemplifies all around sportsmanship. The recipient of the award is chosen by votes cast by each coach in the league. Charlotte recently graduated from Bedford Middle School and enters Staples High School in the fall as a freshman.  (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
