Hero Staples Kicker

Staples senior Santiago Cuartas (c) is congratulated by teammates Keith Gelman (l) and Pat Murray following his game-winning 31-yard field goal today to edge Greenwich 30-28. His field goal with 30 seconds remaining in the game tied the state record of 10 field goals in one season and made up for his miss of a 31-yarder in the third quarter. Coach Marce Petroccio first discovered Santiago’s kicking ability during a junior year gym class. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dan Gelman for WestportNow.com
