Greenwich has appointed a Westport teacher as the assistant principal of the system’s International School at Dundee.
Greenwich Superintendent of Schools Sidney Freund said the appointment of Patricia Finnegan is effective Aug. 15.
The International School at Dundee serves students from kindergarten through fifth grade and teaches the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.
A Greenwich announcement said Finnegan has been an educator with Westport Public Schools since 1997, starting as a long-term substitute.
In the 1997-98 school year, she became a kindergarten teacher for the extended-day program at Saugatuck Elementary School and provided academic support in literacy and math for students in first through fifth grades.
She has also taken on various leadership roles at the school, including serving as math representative, overseeing curriculum implementation of the Everyday Math program and math curriculum reviews, and providing instructional support.
Since 2003, Finnegan has been a science curriculum leader for the district at the kindergarten level, implementing inquiry-based science curriculum and providing staff development, and she has served as the literacy representative since 2008.
“Ms. Finnegan impressed us with her understanding of the K-5 continuum of learning, her various leadership roles, and her experience in a number of the programs and strategies that we are focused on in the District and at ISD,” Freund said in a statement.
“We believe she will be an excellent match for the ISD community and look forward to welcoming her to Greenwich.”

Wait a minute… in 1997-1998 there was no Saugatuck Elementary – that didn’t open until 2002, a year after BMS vacated its old building and it was renovated.
