The contest kicks off Thursday at noon, as First Selectman Jim Marpe proclaims March as Westport Pizza Month, beginning at Joe’s Pizza and Italian Restaurant on Main Street. All are invited, said Matthew Mandell, WWCC executive director.

According to Mandell, 14 pizza making restaurants will compete in seven different categories “to be crowned Best Pizza Maker in Westport.”

He said residents can vote online for each category: best slice; best personal pizza; best meat pizza; best gluten free pizza; best veggie pizza; best plain pizza; and best delivered pizza.

The 14 competing restaurants across town are: Angelina’s; Cuatro Hermanos; Joe’s, Jordan’s III; Julian’s Brick Oven; Julian’s Kitchen;  Planet Pizza; Rizzuto’s; Romanacci Express; Tarry Lodge; Tuscano’s; Tutti’s; Via Sforza; and Westport Pizzeria.

“This is a fun way for our community to interact, support our local restaurants and best of all get to eat lots of pizza,” said Mandell. “It’s all about creating experiences and this will be a positive for everyone; businesses, residents and of course the Town as a whole.”

Mandell said residents have the month to visit all the venues, enjoy the offerings, “Then, go to the Chamber’s Pizza Contest web page to vote via cell phone or PC.”

He added that as the community participates throughout the month the social media hash tag #greatwestportpizza can used in posts.

“The more pictures of eating pizza the better,” he said.

Mandell said the event is being sponsored by the Westport law firm Berchem Moses PC.

He added that inning restaurants will receive a plaque . For more information and to access the voting pages, visit
