After 19 years in the same Compo Acres location, the family-owned and operated gift and travel necessity business serving Fairfield County since 1904 has moved to its new space that Silver previously occupied for 31 years beginning in 1951.
Trader Joe’s will expand to include the vacated space.
Co-owners Stephen Silver and his sister Susan are bringing back the door prizes that their father Phil conceptualized and implemented for the original location. They have a free $20 gift for the first 200 customers who make a purchase of $19.51 and there will be a grand opening drawing to win free gifts.
While the merchandise has changed over the years, Silver of Westport has always offered innovative product assortments and that has not changed, according to the Silvers.
“Father Phil was always a ‘techie’ before the word existed,” the brother and sister said in a news release. “The apple did not fall far from the tree as Stephen’s enthusiasm in the area of technology, gadgetry and luggage are contagious.”
They added: “Susan is well known in the fashion accessories and handbag arena as a savvy buyer who recognizes trends early and is creative in her offerings.”
The new “old” space was designed by Granoff Architect Andreas Stresemann. Stephen’s son, David, is an associate at the design group and is the project administrator.
The now century-old Silver presence in Fairfield County began in 1904 with the Silvers’s grandfather selling canes and umbrellas in Bridgeport.
“They are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue the tradition,” their news release said.
