Gallery: Wreckers Defeat Wilton

The pandemic forced a new format to Staples varsity football: only seven players per team, only passing, no running game, and a single one-second touch as opposed to tackling to end the play. Only parents are allowed to attend, so the audience is sparse. In game two of five in the abbreviated season, Wreckers were down 10-5 in the first quarter but rallied to defeat Wilton with a final score of 45-30. Senior wide receiver Cam Manna caught three of five touchdown passes from junior quarterback Ryan Thompson for 18 points. Kicker Max Szostak, a senior, added 10 points with his five successful point-after attempts. Staples is 2-0, with three games remaining, all at home. The Wreckers face Ridgefield Friday, Oct. 16.
