Near & Far Aid, the Fairfield-based nonprofit which supports programs aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty at home and abroad, has scheduled its annual gala for Friday, March 2, at Mitchells of Westport.
This year’s gala has a Roaring 20s theme with Mitchells being transformed into a “grand affair, overflowing with innovative style, food, champagne, Harlem jazz, entertainment and its very own late-night speakeasy,” an announcement said.
Near & Far Aid, an all-volunteer organization established more than a 60 years ago, has donated more than $17 million to 100 plus community organizations and programs in Fairfield County since 2000, event planners said.
“Providing a pathway out of poverty for our neighbors working to survive is our focus,” said Kim Meier, the organization’s president. “The generous support of our donors and patrons enables us to grant more than $1 million annually to this effort.
“We are especially grateful for our 23-year partnership with the Mitchell family, without whom this gala would not be possible,” she added.
The evening fundraiser will feature a silent and live auction. The silent auction catalog includes: a private tea at Tiffany’s in New York City; two nights and two rounds of golf at the Breakers in Palm Beach; a three-night escape to Cal-a-Vie Health Spa in southern California; Sea Island golf get-away; and center orchestra seats and backstage tour to “Hello, Dolly” on Broadway.
The live auction will be run by TV personality David Price and professional auctioneer Elyse Luray. It features opulent trips, including a weekend in Lexington attending the Kentucky Derby; a trip to London with center court seats at the Ladies Finals at Wimbledon, plus trips to Montana, Italy, Costa Rica and Napa Valley.
