Doug Sheffer Sailing Cup Awarded to Staples Sophomore

Eric Elias (c), 15, today was awarded the second annual Doug Sheffer Cup at the Longshore Sailing School. Elias, a rising sophomore at Staples High School, was runnerup for the cup in 2014. Robbert VanBatenburg (r), 14, of Easton was runnerup while David Adipietro (l) 14, an entering Staples freshman, was second runnerup. The Doug Sheffer Cup is named in memory one of the original instructors at the sailing school (1975-78) who died in a January 2014 Colorado helicopter crash at age 63.
