The Westport space is located adjacent to just-closed Great Cakes. The owners, Belgian-born Henri and Bulgarian-born Ivanina Donneaux, opened their first Grilled Cheese Eatery at 57 Unquowa Road, Fairfield in October 2013, having converted their Cafe Lola space into the new food concept.

She describes the menu as “for the sophisticated palate, even though our basic offering is grilled cheese.”

“Our menu features short ribs with truffle sauce, Cuban sandwiches buffalo wings, barbecued ribs and even a mac ‘n cheese grilled cheese which customers often describe as ‘heaven in my mouth,’” Donneaux said.

She said the menu includes three different tomato soups, daily soup specials and a create-your-own salad with 40 different selections from which to choose.

Sensitive to the range of health and culinary tastes, Donneaux said options include gluten-free bread, vegan cheese, dairy-free and gluten-free vegetarian soups.

Unlike the Fairfield eatery, the Westport location will not offer alcoholic beverages and will open seven days a week from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

“The atmosphere will be comfortable so parents can bring their kids,” she sad

“It’s a non-pretentious atmosphere, very young and vibrant. We bring a fresh energy.”

She added, “We have always been community oriented. Our desire is to appeal to Westporters in a way like the wonderful owners of Great Cakes, who were here for over 30 years.”
