The announcement followed other Westport restaurant closings or announced closings. Post 154 across the street on Post Road East closed in January. Bobby Q’s on Main Street, is shutting down at the end of the month.
“Running the Blue Lemon has been an extremely rewarding experience, both personally and professionally,” Malcarney said.
“After 13 years and careful consideration, I have decided it is time for me to move into another stage of my life, and close the restaurant.”
When the restaurant opened in 2003, it was called a “delightful oasis for diners who crave good food in cozy, conversational surroundings” according to The New York Times review.
“I am really proud of what we were able to accomplish,” Malcarney said. “We combined fresh, delicious ingredients, much of which was sourced locally, with some of the best service around.
“We created an atmosphere where you could relax with a good meal and actually hear the conversation across the table.”
He said that between now and its closing the restaurant will remain committed to providing “the same great food and service that we are known for.”
“We have live jazz with Melissa Newman on April 1, and our final wine dinner will be on April 7,” he said.
“I love and respect my staff and the many guests who have supported me over the years. I want to close the restaurant with pride and allow my staff and guests the opportunity to say goodbye. ”
Malcarney also owns Rory’s restaurant in Darien.
“I’d like to think that we made a difference to the greater Westport community through our support of the many local schools, charities and organizations,” he said.
“I appreciate everyone’s patronage over the years, and I am leaving with many fond memories and life-long friends.”

Arguably the best restaurant in town, with the best staff in town, this quiet, elegant and understated place to relax over a meal will be dearly missed.
