A Nike retail store opens at Westport’s 69 Main St., the former location of the Gap, at 10 a.m. on Thursday. A spokesperson for Nike said that the shop is dedicated to runners featuring running, training and sportswear products. The Westport store is the second Nike store in Connecticut that is dedicated to runners—the other is in Farmington. Nike will celebrate the store launch all day Thursday and Friday with activities that include a DJ, refreshments and a gift with purchase while supplies last, the company said. In addition to the new runners’ services, Nike Running Westport also will keep consumers informed on local happenings including Nike community programs, running activities, exclusive athlete or celebrity appearances, local races and more, the spokesperson said. Guess those of us who play Tennis and Basketball will still seek out the Athletic Shoe Factory.
Just another national chain store on Main street as I see it.
As if having another National Chain move onto our Main St. isn’t bad enough, they go and ostracize all other sports besides Running…. for what purpose?
Yikes, I’ve been flamed by Loffredo. Fair enough David, you make a good point, as always.
By all means you should shop there and stop in at Bobby Qs for lunch, I highly recommend it. ‘
But for me, I don’t run, except for office. The place looses something in the translation for me. Especially since my son has been so excited to buy new basketball sneakers there, that won’t be available for him it would seem.
I was informed by Bob LeRose, Pres of the DMA, that all the stores on Main St will be fully occupied by March. We have a very vibrant (daytime) downtown, just depends on your taste.
