Comings and Goings: Munson’s Chocolates Closes

WestportNow.com Image
After 20 years in Westport, Munson’s Chocolates, 1460 Post Road East, closed today. According to Karen Munson, a third generation owner of the Bolton, Conn.-based nine-store chain, “It’s the end of our lease, it’s been a great run, but we’ve decided to explore other opportunities in other parts of the state.” According to its website, Munson’s Chocolates was founded by Ben and Josephine Munson in 1946 and was originally titled The Dandy Candy Company.  Munson’s stores, all in Connecticut, are located at Bolton, West Simsbury, Newington, Mystic, Orange, South Windsor, Glastonbury, Farmington, West Hartford and at Foxwoods Resort & Casino. 1. Liam, I’m very sorry you lost your job in such a manner.  That’s absolutely awful!  I know Joanne and feel terrible for her 🙁

I guess what I can say is, what goes around comes around.  In the meantime, take care and hang in there.

  2. I worked at Munson’s for about eight months and I would just like to publicize the fact that Karen Munson gave no warning that Munson’s was closing until this morning when my boss, Joanne, and a co-worker went in and the regional manager was there to tell them they were closed. I am still supported by my parents, but some people who worked here depended on Munson’s for an income and the way that Karen handled it was frankly deceitful. It is shocking to me how telling your employees that they no longer have a job the day of can be legal.
