Greenfield Cleaners will open a 700-square foot shop in Westport’s Bridge Square by the fall. East Norwalk resident and owner John Jang said the Westport store in part of space previously occupied by Bridge Market will be his fifth location in Fairfield County. The business has shops in Wilton, Fairfield. Darien and Greenwich. Jang said the Bridge Square services will include a full drop off, free pick-up and delivery, and a tailor will be on site every day. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

  1. DUMB and short sighted
We did not have enough business to support the previous cleaners that occupied a much smaller space in Bridge Sq.  Saugatuck needs a small food mart like old Bridge Market   Generic daily needs that we now need to travel to the Stop and Shop near Fairfield to get.  Trader Joe and Fresh Mkt are nice but do not serve the basic needs of a last minute dinner or suprise guest need.  Macgee family WE MISS YOU !!!

  2. Couldn’t agree more. This space has been crying out for a return of the Bridge Market. I wonder why it hasn’t returned and why this space remains empty?

  3. I totally agree with both of you. We already have a few established cleaners with tailors on site, how many does a small town need? But I must add, I’m surprised it isn’t another bank taking the space!
As for Peter’s Market, the different companies that took over the space couldn’t compare to the “original” Peter’s Bridge Market. Back in the day, in Saugatuck, we not only had Peter’s Market, we had Franklin Market, on Franklin Street, run by the Capasee family, Malozzo’s Market across from the Railroad Station, run by the Malozzo Family, and going way back, we had Arcudi’s Store, (on the corner where that huge office building is in Saugatuck) run by the Arcudi family.
In Compo Shopping Center we had a Finest, an A&P and I think there was one more there, all gone now. And Shaw’s was a halfway point to Stop and Shop.
Hopefully, when Trader Joe’s expands, they will fill all our needs:)
