The newest addition to Westport’s ice cream scene is the arrival of Frosty Bear Ice Cream at 161 Cross Highway in the gazebo next to Christy’s Country Store. Owner John Martin said the shop features Longford’s small batch premium ice cream which he says is made in the tri-state area and is “one of the creamiest and richest ice creams available.” For the past 13 years Martin was co-owner of a Westport communications firm. Frosty Bear is a family business—daughters, Lauren, 19, and Allison, 14, will help out this summer along with their mother Ann who also serves as a Girl Scouts camp director. Shop hours are Tuesday-Thursday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 2 p.m. to 9.p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. and closed Mondays in June. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

I solemnly vow to support this local ice cream stand as best I can, daily even. Seriously, Christie’s is about as old time Westport as it gets, and Christie Masiello used to sell ice cream out of that stand waaay back in the day (but had stopped doing so by 1972, when I began riding my bike to Christies for candy and the air for my bike’s tires.)
Good luck to the Martins!
