UPDATE Dunkin’ Donuts is coming to Westport’s Bridge Square in the Saugatuck area next month. The 1,200-square foot store will go in to space next to the former Bridge Market, according to Jim Cain of Norwalk-based Cain Management. It will be Cain’s second Dunkin’ Donuts store in Westport –- the other is at 606 Post Road East. (A third Dunkin’ Donuts store in Westport at Post Road East and Maple Avenue North is not theirs.) Cain, whose company also operates two Baskin Robins stores in Norwalk, said the Bridge Square store will have full menu—including sandwiches—in addition to donuts, bagels, croissants and other items. The store, which will have seating for about nine persons, will employ about six to 12 employees, Cain said. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

How about the one at the corner of Maple & Rte. 1 (not to mention the one near the Fairfield/Westport line)? Just curious.
Nooooo! Does the errosion ever end??
Patronize Doc’s! (If it’s still there after all this).
Also David, how many Starbucks does one town need ????felt85
What? No Starbucks?
Dunkin Donuts will never replace Doc’s. They have the best coffee selections, and ‘goodies’, in Westport…and, a marvelous parking area….plus, a wonderful working crew.
Docs! Docs! Docs! (and don’t forget Commuter!)
Why not put a bank in there, too and call it a complete strip mall. Oh wait, wouldn’t we need a Baby Gap also w/ something else that’s eluding me at the moment…
Hope everyone continues to go to Doc’s as it’s definitely more accessible.
I’m not opposed to any business that can remain in tenancy at Bridge Square. I’m just surprised they got past the potential parking issues with whatever regulatory body supervises and approves this sort of thing. Didn’t that sink a couple of other places that were supposed to be in the space next to Tutti’s?
FYI – The facade will not have the plastic back lit signs we see everywhere. Jim Cain worked with the local RTM reps make sure the exterior would look in tune with the rest of the site and stay in character as best it could. The main signs will be wood and be lit with curved down lighting. The Bridge Square sign on the wall will be kept, just moved from the corner of the building down a bit.
Let’s hope for the best. This is the first national chain store to come into Saugatuck.
It’s better that there is a store front no longer empty. Better for the town and the property owner.
If you want a Mom & Pop in there start one and rent a space.
Ann Marie—you’re right: we do not need any more Starbucks!
I see that they’ve updated the caption since my earlier comment and have clarified that this new DD is the second in Westport to be owned by Cain Management, and that the third DD on Route 1/Maple Ave North is owned by a different company. To that, I say “thank you” to Cain Management. My family and I have noticed a huge difference in the atmosphere and attitudes of the employees at both existing Westport DD stores. When entering the DD at 606 Post Rd East (next to Westport Hardware), the employees are very pleasant and helpful. When entering the DD near Maple Ave North, just the opposite: you’re greeted with an unpleasant “what do you want?” No smiles, just frowns. Now it all makes sense that both stores are owned by two different owners. Cain Management: customers notice! Thank you!
John Karrel is right. This would be the third Dunkin Donuts in Westport, not 2 as stated in the caption. How many Dunkin Donuts does one town need???
I think this is good news to have a popular place come into this area. It all seems so forlorn there right now. I just wish that Peter’s Bridge Street Market had been as nice as the Peter’s in Weston. Why did that place get so run down?
For those who are bemoaning this new tenant (and trust me, I understand and agree with the value of small, local businesses), would you rather the storefront stay empty until the “right” tenant (however you define that) signs a lease? I think that it’s great that a new tenant is moving in. Hopefully they will be more financially successful than the last and I wish them the best of luck.
I hate seeing the empty storefronts as much as anyone but I also think Duncan Donuts at this location is bad for the town. This is a poor first step towards the revitalization of Saugatuck. We’ve got several businesses in the train station area that offer coffee who could be severely impacted by this. I just hope Westporters have sophisticated enough palates to prefer Docs or others over Duncan.
There is no doubt that the Cain DD stores are by far the best DD stores I have ever patronized. The second you step in their place, you can feel the difference. I’m sure the Saug location will be no different, if not even better being there is serious competition in the immediate area. In my opinion that is a good thing for all – I wish them all well.
Cain Management stores are the best! It’s a terrific franchise, with better service and better prices than the Maple Avenue store and the stores in the Fairfield direction. http://www.cainmanagementinc.com is their website for more information. A really fantastic network of Dunkin’ Donuts stores!!
