Stacy Fowle, a grade five classroom teacher at Greens Farms School, was honored at tonight’s Board of Education meeting, along with 12 other nominees from throughout the district.
Her selection was first announced at an Aug. 22 convocation of teachers and staff, but the district at the time declined to make details available to the media.
An ardent environmentalist, Fowle has been in the district 14 years, where she has spearheaded various initiatives aimed at environmental causes—in particular a Zero Waste Committee that has impacted schools across town.
A graduate of Sacred Heart University and Bank Street College, she first began teaching in 1991 at PS 234, District 2, in New York City.
“I feel deeply connected to the Westport Public Schools,” said Fowle, noting that several of her own teachers are named on the Teacher of the Year plaque in Town Hall.
“As a former student, as a parent, as a community member, and as a colleague, I’m thrilled to be joining this illustrious group,” she said.
Other nominees from throughout the district included Victoria Capozzi, Lindsay Forth, Megan Gallant, Roshawn Lawrence, Rebecca Marsick, Brennan Morgan, Ann Neary, Barbara Robbins, Luke Rosenberg, Emily Sawyer, Elizabeth Smith, and Holly Sulzycki.
