A Westport medical assistant is among Connecticut pediatric health professionals who will be recognized as an immunization “champion” at a Hartford ceremony on Wednesday, April 23, it was announced today.
Martine Quick of Westport’s Willows Pediatric Group is one of 15 Connecticut physicians, nurses, office managers, and their respective local health department immunization coordinators to win the recognition from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.
They were cited for raising childhood immunization coverage in their communities and ensuring that children they serve are protected against childhood vaccine preventable diseases, according to an announcement from the state Department of Public Health.
At the Legislative Office Building event, Connecticut will also be recognized for achieving the third-highest childhood immunization coverage rate in the nation.
“I would like to congratulate each and every one of these ‘champions,’ as well as the other health care professionals throughout the state, who have dedicated their efforts to the immunization of children throughout Connecticut,” said Gov. M. Jodi Rell in a statement.
“It makes me proud that through the hard work and commitment of these professionals, Connecticut has the third highest rate of childhood immunizations in the country.”
According to results from the CDC 2006 National Immunization Survey, Connecticut achieved an 82 percent coverage rate for the basic immunization series among children 19 to 35 months of age. Connecticut’s immunization rate was third only to Massachusetts and North Carolina.
