An application for a permit to demolish the house at Westport’s 4 Blue Ribbon Drive, off North Avenue, is in process. Built in 1958, the two-story colonial has 2,878 square feet and is situated on a 1.02-acre property. It sold in April 2015 for $1.1 million. An application for a permit to demolish the houses at Westport’s 38 and 40 Old Mill Road, in the Compo Mill Cover area, is in process. Built in 1920, the house at No. 38 is a one-story ranch, has 1,008 square feet and is situated on a .23-acre property. Built in 1900, the house at No. 40 is a one-story ranch, has 660 square feet and is situated on a .01-acre property. The Board of Finance Wednesday unanimously approved a Town of Westport proposal to purchase the two flood-damaged homes for $1,111,650, demolish them, and leave the land as open space. (see WestportNow Jan. 7, 2015).  Because the houses were built more than 50 years ago, the application will be reviewed by the Westport Historic District Commission. WestportNow Teardown of the Day: 66 Beachside Ave.

An application for a permit to demolish three houses at Westport’s 66 Beachside Ave. is in process. Each built in 1900, include a two-story custom contemporary which has 4,907 square feet, a 1-3/4 story cape that has 1,118 square feet and a one-story ranch which has 799 square feet. One of the structures is identified by the Westport Historic District Commission (HDC) as the C. Sooysmith/Frederick T. Bedford Estate Stable. The houses are situated on a 7.13-acre waterside property which was the home of Ruth Bedford, the last surviving grandchild of Westport philanthropist Edward T. Bedford.
