Other neighbors joined the families of the property’s new owners, Ed Moeller and Andy Tsilfides, to observe and celebrate the demolition of the 2,246-square-foot corner house built on .40 acre in 1954.

The owners said the purchase was made to allow them and not someone else to determine what is to be built in their neighborhood.

“Andy and I purchased this run-down property with the intention of building a house on it that will help to beautify the street and our neighborhood,” said Moeller.

WestportNow Teardown (Sort of) of the Day: 156 Easton Road

A demolition permit was required for today’s WestportNow Teardown of the Day at 156 Easton Road and that technically makes it the shortest life from construction to demolition of any teardown featured on WestportNow. But there are unusual circumstances. The previous house on the property was the WestportNow Teardown of the Day on Nov. 2, 2005. A developer purchased the .75-acre property for $680,000 in September 2005 and built a modular home there. In May 2006, the owners of an adacent (smaller) property on Catamount Road (where their house was built in 1924) purchased 156 Easton Road for $1.3 million and asked the developer to remove the new home. The builder began taking down the house Tuesday and moving it to an empty one-acre site at 6 Barry Lane, which was featured as the WestportNow Teardown of the Day on Dec. 26, 2006. Going Down: 5 Charmers Landing

The house at 5 Charmers landing off Westport’s Saugatuck Avenue, featured earlier today as the WestportNow Teardown of the Day, was demolished today. Built in 1997, the 7,200-square foot home is the most recently constructed Westport home ever featured as a WestportNow teardown. A WestportNow reader reported that it was deemed uninhabitable due to water damage and mold. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
