While others may have been on the beach or at the barbeque, members of the Westport Little League Girls Softball were taking part in a Memorial Day Softball Jamboree Monday at the fields behind Westport Town Hall. Organizers took the AAA and Major League players (grades 5 – 7), mixed them up, and drew four teams which played two games each for fun. There was no winner—just ice cream between games. Staples Coach Jack McFarland, who was coaching in third base box, argues that an inside pitch hit Colin McCarthy on the elbow during today’s FCIAC championship game against Danbury. But the plate umpire ruled the ball hit the bat for a foul ball. Eventually McCarthy flied out. McFarland said the call may have fired up the team which went on to win 5-3.
