WestportNow.com Image
Restore Cryotherapy will move into the 2,500-square foot space vacated in May by Radio Shack at 877 Post Road East. Its founders describe the business as aimed at “reducing the chronic pain epidemic.” By using Cryotherapy, clients “experience an endorphin rush, reduced pain, tighter skin, and potentially some weight loss due to a 500-800 calorie burn after each session,” according to its website. Broker Robert Lewis of Vidal Wettenstein represented the landlord and Peter Levine of Charter Realty & Development represented the tenant. Lewis said Restore Cryotherapy, a franchise, is aiming for an October opening. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) WestportNow.com photo

Real Estate Report: Saugatuck Shores, Island Areas Hot

By Judy Szablak

Special to WestportNow

Only 5 percent of all the homes currently available in Westport are in the Saugatuck Shores and Saugatuck Island areas.

The average price of the available 19 homes is just over $3.14 million. The highest priced property is listed at $7.295 million, and the lowest priced home is listed at $1,199,000.

The low number of homes available for sale in these areas helps to create an edge for sellers.

The current inventory doesn’t equate to that many homes for buyers to choose from, especially at a time when the area’s buying selling season is upon us.

WestportNow Teardown of the Day: 36 Elm St.

WestportNow.com Image
An application for a permit to demolish the building at Westport’s 36 Elm St, is in process. Built in 1900, the 1-1/2 story building has 3,866-square feet, is situated on a .15-acre property, and most recently changed ownership in February 2017 for $4.9 million. The building has housed the Villa del Sol Mexican restaurant and Design Within Reach, which has moved to 154 Post Road East. As first reported on July 13, 2017, Villa Del Sol will be moving to 170 Post Road West in space previously occupied by Peachwave. (See WestportNow July 13, 2017) Developer David Waldman purchased 36 Elm St. as part of a land swap with the town that would see construction of a retail and residential building across the street behind Lux Bond & Green. Because the building was built more than 50 years ago, the application will be reviewed by the Westport Historic District Commission. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) WestportNow.com photo

Town Attorney Ira Bloom said today the Appellate Court on July 26 denied a petition for certification to appeal a May 25 decision by a Hartford Superior Court judge to dismiss the affordable housing lawsuit brought by Garden Homes of Stamford.

Judge Marshall Berger upheld a Westport Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission denial of the Garden Homes’ application to build at 122 Wilton Road. (See WestportNow May, 27, 2017)

“I am very pleased with this decision from the Appellate Court,” said Bloom.  “The Trial Court’s decision upholding our denial of this application now stands.

Real Estate Report: Large Properties Increasingly Scarce

By Judy Szablak

Special to WestportNow

Only nine homes with three acres or more have sold in Westport since the beginning of the year, and only five sold in all of 2016.

That’s not because they are not in demand. There just aren’t that many that exist townwide.

Over the years, many of the existing larger parcels have been prime candidates for subdivisions.

That kind of acreage is just not too common anymore. Some homeowners have even purchased neighboring properties to obtain additional land.
