Real Estate Report: Homes Under $1M Are ‘Hot’

By Judy Szablak

In today’s Westport real estate market, the healthiest “price pocket” is homes priced under $1 million.

There are currently 67 homes available in this range that have an average listing price of $747,872, and have an average size of 2,142 square feet.

There are 33 homes under contract which equates to 34.7 percent of everything in town that is currently under deposit. Considering that this price pocket makes up only 17.8 percent of the available inventory, this segment of the market is particularly “hot.”

The unique aspect of this price point is that many of these homes not only appeal to buyers looking for an entrance to owning real estate in Westport, they also appeal to builders looking for teardown opportunities.

Serena & Lily to Open at Kemper-Gunn House

Though not exactly the Mom & Pop shop that the town had hoped to woo to the restored and relocated Kemper-Gunn house at 35 Elm St., town officials are nonetheless bullish about Serena & Lily, the national home furnishings, bedding and decor outlet opening there on Friday.

In fact, the town is so pleased that First Selectman Jim Marpe will be part of the ribbon cutting ceremony set for Friday at 9:30 a.m.

“We are very excited that Serena & Lily found a home in Westport,” said Marpe. “We welcome them and wish them much success.

“Serena and Lily’s presence in the downtown location, coupled with the unique circumstances surrounding the move and restoration of the Kemper-Gunn House, can be attributed to the dedication of many Westporters,” he added. “I want to extend my sincere thanks to all the people who helped make this happen.”

Comings and Goings: Lucy’s Opens Thursday

WestportNow.com Image
Lucy’s, a high-end women’s boutique, opens Thursday at 23 Jesup Road in the space formerly occupied by Lynne Scalo Design, according to owner Lisa Savone. A Westport resident, Savone said she is not new to the Westport fashion scene, having previously owned and operated Lucy’s around the corner at 48 Post Road East, next to Tiffany, from 2004 to 2013 when she closed the business to raise her family. The Post Road space is now occupied by Joie, a designer clothing store. Savone also owns Lucy’s in Ridgefield for the past 10 years. She said the name of the business originated with her childhood nickname which, she said, was also her mother’s and grandmother’s nickname. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
