WestportNow.com Image
The auto repair business of the Getty Service Station, formerly located at 271 Post Road East which closed Jan. 15, has reopened as J & J Car Care Center at 1590 Post Road East, across from the Westport Inn. “Our core business was always car repair,” said co-owner Jay Ostreicher (r) “We’ve got loyal customers, and they’ve followed us here.” Westport resident Ostreicher said he and Norwalk resident John Fisher (l) co-owned the Getty station since 1988 when they purchased the franchise from the late Carl Dolberg and continued to own and operate the business for 24 years. He said that Getty’s policy changes “forced us and many other dealers out” of the gas pumping business. Reminiscing about he history of the gas station at the former location,  Ostreicher said that it was a Tydol station before it converted to the Getty brand in 1966. Rive Bistro will open Wednesday at 299 Riverside Ave., the former site of the River House Tavern, according to co-owner Vivi Torres. River House closed in January after a 10-year run. (See WestportNow Jan. 12, 2013) Chef and co-owner Eric Sierra, a native of Biarritz, France, was associated with Westport’s Bistro des Amis from 1991 to 2001 and Il Palio, a Shelton restaurant featuring Mediterranean cuisine. He also was at Martel’s in Farfield. A news release said the new restaurant features a “menu that is French all the way –- sans pretense, with a hint of flavor from various French speaking territories. Chef Sierra has created a casual menu that instead focuses on the better ingredients, bigger flavors, and heartier dishes associated with French country cuisine, with a nod to more refined and classic preparations, without the higher price tag.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com
