Josh Lovelace and his band drove from Tennessee to play Westport’s Levitt Pavilion tonight as part of the Melissa & Doug children’s series. The bad weather scared away all but the heartiest spectators. Lovelace, best known as the keyboardist for the rock band Needtobreathe, said he was driving straight back to Tennessee regardless of the weather so that he could be with his two children in the morning. A Category-5 hurricane is headed toward Gainesville, Florida, where top-ranked college swimmer Haley Keller (Kaya Scodelario) is trying to call her semi-estranged father (Barry Pepper), who has obviously ignored mandatory evacuation orders.

Making her way down wind-swept roads, Haley spies his truck at their childhood home which is up For Sale following her parents’ divorce. After retrieving the family dog, she locates her injured dad in the basement crawl space. He’s imprisoned by a 20-foot-long alligator that lumbered in through the storm drain pipe.

Soon, they’re both trapped down there amid the arrival of more alligators, as torrential rain threatens to flood the entire area. Can they get out? And what faces them when and if they do?

Big Band Sound and More at Levitt

There were plenty of memories recalled at the Levitt Pavilion tonight as a near-capacity crowd heard Vince Giordano, the Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist and bandleader, and his Nighthawks. In delightful summer weather, they played an evening of classic ‘20s and ‘30s standards that had many up and dancing on a makeshift ballroom floor in front of the stage.
