It happened last month, but the Westport schools just got around to announcing it today—that the Bedford Middle School Science Olympiad Team won the Lockheed Martin Spirit Award and a $2,000 check at the Science Olympiad National Tournament at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln on May 15. The award is bestowed on only one middle school and one high school team each year and is considered the most important award aside from the first place award. One of the nation’s most prestigious science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions, the Science Olympiad brings together 120 winning middle school and high school teams advancing from state-level competitions held this spring.
