Karrie Sadler, a fifth grade teacher at Greens Farm’s Elementary school, was named Westport Teacher of the Year today at the 2011-2012 welcoming program for Westport teachers at the Staples High School auditorium. The program recognized the five nominated candidates for Westport’s 2012 Teacher of the Year and those who have served the Westport Public Schools for 25 years. The other four candidates were Mike Zito, technology teacher at Staples High School; Cheryl Balcko, psychologist at Coleytown Middle School; Deanne Schulz of Long Lots Elementary, and Liza Paglialunga, physical ed teacher at Green’s Farms. Sadler said, “I became a teacher because I believe in kids. I remain a teacher because I believe in teachers. It’s not what you know but sharing what you know.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Dave Matlow for WestportNow.com

  1. Congratulations, Karrie!  This recognition is well-deserved.  You have rightfully earned the admiration and the adoration of your students and their families alike.  It’s about time your praises were sung publicly!

  2. Mrs. Sadler was one of my greatest teachers. I had her in second grade at King’s Highway Elementary, and from the first day I knew she would be an amazing teacher. She always greeted us with a smiling face in the morning, and genuinely loved us all. She was also the first teacher to recommend me for the gifted program, and I would not be in it today without her. I was so sad she had to leave King’s Highway in order to teach at Greens Farms, but I have seen her a few times since. I hope She continues to teach for many years more and keeps up the great work.
