Westporter Jerry Kuyper said the balmy New Year’s Day weather was just too good for him to resist creating a rock sculpture at Compo Beach. Kuyper was recently highlighted in the “Connecticut 24/7” volume of the “America 24/7 series.” His art can be seen more directly in his online Photo Album, with images of precariously balanced mixed constructions from Maine to Switzerland (CLICK TO ENLARGE). I must ask those that construct these “precariously balanced mixed constructions” to be careful where they place them. I once saw a toddler knock one of these over and almost take a rock to the head. Since then, I knock down any of these piles that is accessible to children. Please do not put these art works in child-friendly locations. Thanks.
Joe
Did anyone take responsibility for the child being on those slippery rocks?
ron
The incident with the toddler took place in the park on Imperial in a grassy, child-friendly area. I have no issue with these sculptures when they are placed out on slippery rocks. I just want the rock artists to not construct them where a child might get hurt. For example, I have also spotted these sculptures in child-friendly areas like Winslow North and the bench/grassy areas along the Hillspoint sidewalk.
These are wonderous sculptures. It is hard not to look and not smile and/or experience a sense of awe, feeling uplifted.
