Staples Footballers Fall to Greenwich 37-10

The Staples High School football team lost to FCIAC rival Greenwich 37-10 today at Greenwich.

It was payback for the Cardinals who last year saw the Wreckers win a berth in the Class LL playoffs with a 28-26 Thanksgiving win over Greenwich..

The Greenwich victory, coupled with a loss by Fairfield Prep, clinched a spot in this year’s Class LL playoffs for the Cardinals.

Staples ends its season with a 5-5 record while Greenwich improved to 7-3.

A Special Touchdown

It was a special night tonight for Dylan Curran, 16, a special needs student at Staples High School, where he is freshman football team manager. During the halftime break in a freshman home game against Greenwich, teammates gave a suited-up Dylan the football and he scored a touchdown, much to the delight of all who watched. It was a highlight for the Wreckers, who fell to Greenwich 34-13. Dylan had a similar special experience a year ago as a student at Bedford Middle School.
