Pat Scott, who helped lead the Staples High School football team to the Class L state championship last season, has decided to join the U.S. Marines so he can help fight in the war against terrorism, according to today’s The Hour of Norwalk. Scott, shown earlier this year with Coach Marce Petroccio at a team banquet, reportedly told Petroccio: “Coach, I’m going to the Marines. That’s what I always wanted and that’s what I’m doing. ” He reports to Parris Island, S.C. Oct. 23 to begin basic training, the newspaper said. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) WestportNow.com photo

Staples scored in the second half with an assist by freshman Brooke Donovan to junior Libby Meyers.

Staples is now 5-2 on the season, including an undefeated home record with opponents failing to score or to tie. The next home game is Monday at 3 p.m. against Fairfield Ludlowe at Ginny Parker field.
