“It hurts to not get at least 1 point (for a tie) out of a game like this,” said head coach Dan Woog. But it’s still September. No one has heard the last of this group, that’s for sure.”

“There are many ways to win a soccer match,” said head coach Dan Woog. “This wasn’t the prettiest game, but we figured out what we had to do and we did it.”

Stellar defense by Lesch, Mike Smith, Frankie Bergonzi, Alex Gendell, Jackson Lesser and Jack Hennessy—along with strong combination play all over the field—keyed the victory.
“I’ll take 1-0 against a strong Ludlowe squad over a 5-4 win any day,” said head coach Dan Woog. “Every day we’re taking big strides, and every day our guys believe a little more in themselves.”

Staples senior Ben Rosa takes a 26-yard pass from sophomore Brandon Pacilio with 56 seconds left in the game to score Staples’ fourth and final touchdown of today’s 27-9 win over Norwalk’s Brien McMahon. Said Wrecker Coach Marce Petroccio afterwards: “Our kids gave a great effort today. We started out fast, then we made some mistakes. We could of went into the tank, but we battled back. You know in this conference, there isn’t going to be one FCIAC game that’s going to be easy. I’m just so proud of our seniors and this team.” (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Zak Smolen for WestportNow.com
