Special to WestportNowWhile there is uncertainty over the real estate market due to the news about COVID-19 in the last few weeks, Westport is still showing strength.
Amid all of the news coverage, shortened business hours, paper goods supply shortages and closures during the last seven days, 10 homes went under the initial stage of deposit.
When we consider that there are 34 homes that went under the initial stage of deposit in the last 45 days, the 10 initial deposits that occurred last week alone represent almost 1/3 of townwide deposits.
Housing is still one our basic needs. People still need to sell, and buyers are out and about looking. The low interest rates are indeed quite helpful to all.

Manna, a casual all-day cafe, will open this summer at 29 Church Lane in Bedford Square, across from the Spotted Horse Tavern, according to owner/chef Molly Healey, who is in partnership with Yvette Waldman and Stacy Bass. Healey, the prior owner of a tri-state catering business, The Grateful Food Company, said the all-day menu features a “toast concept” with delights served on toasted sourdough bread accompanied by selections of salads and other creations. The eatery, which seats 28-30, will also offer coffee, wine and beer. Healey’s husband, Charlie Gilhuly, is well known in Westport’s restaurant circuit as the director of operations at both OKO, 6 Wilton Road, and The Cottage, 256 Post Road East. An application for a permit to demolish the house at Westport’s 25 Treadwell Ave., off Riverside Avenue, is in process. Built in 1935, the two-story colonial has 2,560-square feet, is situated on a .45-acre property and changed ownership in December for $415,489.
