Fiery Merritt Crash Injures Four

UPDATE A fiery crash on the Merritt Parkway just north of the North Avenue overpass northbound in Westport late today sent four persons to hospitals. Two vehicles were involved. Westport Assistant Chief Philip Hessberger said it was determined that one vehicle crossed the divider and collided with an oncoming car causing the second vehicle to catch on fire. All occupants were removed from the vehicles by good Samaritans and their injuries appeared non-life threatening, he said. Ribbon Cutting Opens 1177 Post Road East

There was an official ribbon cutting today for 1177 Post Road East, the 94-unit apartment complex, built under the 8-30g affordable housing statute. First Selectman Jim Marpe was joined by other town officials, the building developers, Phil Craft, Steve Lawrence, and Arthur Hersh, and Matthew Mandell of the Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce. With this complex, Westport has now applied to the state for a four-year moratorium, giving relief from the 8-30g statute for all new such applications. (CLICK TO ENLARGE) Contributed photo
