Westport Arts Center Seeks Entries for its The Figure NOW Exhibit

The Westport Arts Center is seeking entries for an April exhibit it calls The Figure NOW.

The juried show featuring contemporary interpretations of the ageless subject will run at the Center April 2 to May 23.

Open to all media, the exhibition will be juried by Jennifer Gross, curator of modern and contemporary art at Yale University Art and visiting critic at Yale School of Art.

The Figure NOW will display a variety of work that interprets the human figure with excellence of expressionӔ and innovation,Ӕ according to a WAC announcement.

Awards for artistic merit ranging from $100 to $300 will made by Gross, who has curated five major shows at the Yale University Art Gallery.

The words ӑcurrent and ґfigurative are the keys to this exhibit,Ҕ said Anne Lanford, gallery coordinator for the Westport Arts Center. All media is welcome, even media such as video, and there are not stringent size restrictions for this show.Ӕ

The deadline for entries for The Figure NOW is Monday, Feb. 2 for mailed entries and Friday, Feb. 6 for hand-delivered entries, and there is a $20 non-refundable entry fee.

The Figure NOW opens Friday, April 2, at 6:30 p.m. with an awards and opening reception.
