There is a potential for sustained wind speeds from 30 to 40 mph with gusts from 45 to 55 mph Friday afternoon and Friday night, the advisory said.

Ahead of this front, the highest south winds will occur across Long Island and southern Connecticut.

However, bands of heavy showers and thunderstorms could produce wind gusts up to 55 mph region wide. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk for severe thunderstorms during Friday.

Behind this front winds will shift to the west with the passage of this front. As much colder air is pushed east across the area, west winds could gust from 45 to 55 mph region wide, the advisory said. .
