‘Watch Out, Westport, You Could Be Next on the Hit Parade’ Image
Transportation advocate Jim Cameron, whose “Talking Transportation” columns appeared for more than 11 years on WestportNow, warned Westporters today that the planned $1 billion Metro-North reconstruction of the railroad’s 120-year-old Walk Bridge in Norwalk, involving state taking of property, could be followed by a similar costly construction plan for the 1905-built railroad bridge over the Saugatuck River in Westport with similar eminent domain issues. “Watch out, Westport, you could be next on the hit parade,” Cameron told the weekly meeting of the Westport Rotary Club. The founder of The Commuter Action Group and Darien Representative Town Meeting (RTM) member said Connecticut residents should brace themselves for additional taxes in one form or another to pay for transportation upgrades as the state’s gasoline tax revenues continue to decline.
