Police gave this account: shortly after 5 p.m. on Thursday, police received a call of a motor vehicle accident at the YMCA, 14 Allen Raymond Lane.
The responding officer learned a tractor-trailer struck a tree, a sign post and an unoccupied parked vehicle, dragging it out of its parking space, before leaving the scene, said Lt. Jillian Cabana.
A check of parking lot surveillance cameras produced a partial registration and a vehicle description. The information was put out to other officers and State Police, who said a vehicle matching that description was stuck under the Grumman Road underpass in Norwalk.
The driver was identified as Christopher Alexander, 43, of Charlotte, North Carolina.
He was charged with evading responsibility resulting in property damage or Injury. He was held in lieu of $500 bond and transported to Norwalk Court later in the day for arraignment.
