Special Weather Statement

The National Weather Service in Upton, N.Y. late today issued the following special statement:

Bands of moderate to heavy snowfall will continue to move in off the Atlantic through this evening. The heaviest band set up across metro New York, western Long Island, the lower Hudson Valley and southwest Connecticut may remain nearly stationary the next several hours.

Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, gusty winds up to 45 mph and visibilities of 1/4 to 1/2 miles are expected with the snow with near blizzard conditions developing.

Motorists should avoid all unnecessary travel and exercise extreme caution if you must travel. A Blizzard Warning remains in effect.
