Protecting Nesting Birds at Compo Image
An area on South Beach at Compo Beach near the cannons has been cordoned off to protect nesting shore birds. Contributing WestportNow photographer Mark Molesworth said this is the same area where he saw an Oyster Catcher in May 2016 (inset photo) protecting its eggs unsuccessfully from disturbance by people. “It looks like they have succeeded this year with a much larger area and yesterday I heard an Oyster Catcher and went over to the nesting area where one seemed contently sitting on its eggs safe from any people including me,” he said.
