The robbery occurred at about 10:10 a.m. at the store at 903 Post Road East, said Capt. Vincent Penna.

Employees of the store described the suspect as a black male, 6-feet, muscular build, wearing a dark blue hoodie, dark gray or black pants, a black ski-type mask with only his eyes exposed, and black gloves. They said he displayed a silver-colored handgun.

The employees retreated to the rear of the store at the sight of the armed man and he then went behind the counter and removed the cash box from the register, Penna said.

After the robbery the suspect fled the area eastbound, on foot, towards the intersection of Cedar Road, carrying the registers cash box in his hands.

The area was searched immediately after the robbery by Westport Police with the assistance of the Norwalk Police K-9 unit and the suspect is still at large, Penna said

Anyone with information regarding the incident should call the Westport Police Department, Detective Bureau at (203)341-6080, he said.

It was the first robbery reported at the store since August 2005. (See WestportNow Aug. 15, 2005)
