Norwalk Police located the vehicle driven by Mary Baker, 30, in the ditch on Cottonwood Chase Road Thursday, said Westport officers who arrived at the scene.

According to Lt. Jillian Cabana, the incident unfolded Thursday around 8:30 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident in the parking lot of a local restaurant. The witness was able to provide a description of the suspect vehicle, she said.

“The department also received multiple calls reporting erratic operation by the same vehicle,” Cabana said. “One complainant followed the suspect vehicle into Norwalk, and Norwalk Police located the vehicle in a ditch on Cottonwood Chase Road.”

She added that in speaking with Baker, officers detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on her breath. She was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which she failed, Cabana said.

Baker was arrested and transported to Westport Police Headquarters where she was charged. Released after posting $500 bond, she is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Thursday.
