Believe it or not in this age of mega-stores that have put the mom-and-pops out of business (think Toys R Us), Westport still has a few toy store owners and managers who know and love toys.
WestportNow surveyed these wonderful souls to find out what one or two items in their stores they really love to sell this season.  Not the ֓hottest toys Ԗ but just the best.
Notice theres not a single video game among them.
Age of Reason
ғMagz magnetic construction toy – $15 – $75. Learning Express sells something similar called ԓGeomags.  Adults and kids fight for a turn.  Also: Rocket Balloons, $15, a year-round favorite.
Learning Express
“Dread Pirates Treasure Game.” Keep it out on your coffee table for the whole family: $99.99
Radio Shack

Tiny but fast: Zip Zaps from Radio Shack. WestportNow.com photo

OK, itԒs a national chain, but the Westport sales people are local, friendly, and have great hearts especially when it comes to selling the fun stuff. ֓Zip Zap micro racing cars are as great as ever: $19.99 (not including accessories).
The Right Start
ԓThe Teething Book at $5.95 gives babies something to chew on.
Silver of Westport
Movie trivia game ԓScene-it is a DVD and board game: $49.99. Also surprisingly popular is ԓShuffleball Ԗ good old-fashioned shuffleboard: $49.99.
You may notice that not included among the above is Zany Brainy, whose manager was incredibly rude to this reporter on not one but two separate occasions (one to take a holiday photo, one for this survey.)
But wouldnt you would be cranky too if your parent company (in this case FAO Schwarz) had just filed for Chapter 11?
