Mary Blackwell, 89

As a young woman, she was an early flight attendant for Delta Airlines for three years. She later worked for 20 years as a travel agent at the Travel Store in Darien. She also coached youth sports in Darien.

She and her family enjoyed golf at Wee Burn Country Club, and she was a former member of the Nutmeg Curling Club. She once birdied No. 7 at Pebble Beach, a cherished memory.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Aubrey Blackwell, her daughter Lori Franklin and her husband John of Westport, two sons Mark Blackwell and his wife Beth of Chicago, and Keith Blackwell and his wife Julie of Los Angeles, Mrs. Blackwell has seven grandchildren, Rebecca Pinchuk of Chicago, Mary Blackwell of Philadelphia, Ryan Blackwell of Simi Valley, California , Sarah Blackwell of Helsinki, Finland, Max Franklin, Seth Franklin and Sage Franklin, all of Westport, and great-granddaughter Katherine Pinchuk of Chicago. She also is survived by a sister Elevia (Libby) Luraschi and a brother Louis (Bud) Lenti, both of Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents.

It was Mrs. Blackwell’s wish that her body be donated to Yale University School of Medicine.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec.. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Convent of St. Birgitta in Darien. Lunch will be served for all at the convent following the service. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington Curday, County, Virginia.
