Maria R. Giunta, 95

Maria R. Giunta of Westport died May 28 at home. She was 95.

She was wife of the late Anthony P. Giunta, Sr.  She was born in Windber, Pennsylvania on Feb. 24, 1923, the daughter of the late Pasquale Roig and Dolores Miralles Roig.

She worked for the Westport Bank and Trust for a number of years and was active in the community. 

She was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Assumption, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and a dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Westport Sons of Italy.

She is survived by her children, Anthony Giunta, Jr. (Frances), of Westport and Carol Axley (Michael) of San Bruno, California, her grandchildren, Kirsten Giunta (Devon) and David Giunta and baby great granddaughter Maria; also by her sister, Elizabeth Furlong, and a brother ,Patsy Roig (Kathy), and many other nieces, nephews and family members. Besides her parents and husband Anthony, she was predeceased by her sisters Pearl Tolentino and Rose O’Brien and her brother Joe Gill.

Calling hours for friends and family will be on Wednesday, June 6 between 4 and 8 p.m. at the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East. A funeral Mass will be on Thursday, June 7 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 98 Riverside Ave.  Internment will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery 395 Main St.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
